Algorithms sound very computational and mechanical yet they are adapted in artistic ways, as well. Also referred as “automated composition,” Algorithmic composition is reserved for the use of formal procedures to make music with minimal human intervention. Before the invention of complex programming on computer, the use of algorithms was simple match between the set of numbers and intervals. As time passes, the concept of canonic, twelve-tone method and serialism arouse and were commonly used across the different genre of music composers. More recently, algorithmic composition is mainly referred as music composed by computer or music composed with the aid of computer. Recently, models like mathematical models, knowledge-based systems, grammars, evolutionary methods, systems which learn and hybrid systems have developed. These models allow composers to write modern music more quickly and accurately based on mechanisms and algorithms.

I love how you found the usage of algorithm in music, which is not an area many expect algorithms are applied. It was extremely interesting to hear about the advancement of algorithmic area in the musical industry! Great work!! 🙂
